The incumbent performs all duties within the scope of his / her license including medication administration. Completed work is under the general supervision of Registered Nurse or Medical Doctor. He / she will be Technically proficient in initiating, performing and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations. Completed work requires only a general review by a Registered Nurse or Doctor for appropriateness and conformity with established policies and procedures. Duties and or responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Establishes constructive relationships with individual patients and their families to elicit feelings and attitudes, and to promote positive relationships, communication and socialization skills. Fosters an environment of respect for individual patient and family rights to privacy and dignity in all aspects of care delivery. Effectively incorporates knowledge and understanding of established customer service standards in all interactions with patients, family members, and/or other internal/external customers. Provides effective education to patients and/or family members in relation to common disease processes, medication and/or prescribed treatment regimes. Practices within the scope and licensure of a LPN/LVN in the nursing unit, clinic, or area of assignment, and demonstrates consistent practice when temporarily assigned to related nursing units and clinics. Performs support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination, preparing and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and monitoring the patient's condition before, during, and following the procedure. Provides care of patients/residents and their environment contributing to optimizing patient/resident outcomes as a member of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team. Provides reporting, communication and documentation in the computerized patient record system with other members of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team. Maintains licensure, BCLS, and currency in required education and training as identified by regulating agencies. Demonstrates competency and consistency in the technical use of equipment, application of technical standards and performance of administrative support duties. Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with standard operating procedures for the maintenance of reusable medical equipment. Recognizes and appropriately responds to breakage/malfunction or loss of equipment, safety hazards and supply deficiencies, promptly reporting to appropriate personnel for corrective action. Attends unit level and Medical Center meetings and develops as an employee to support committee participation. Actively seeks out educational opportunities to enhance nursing knowledge and skills, sharing new knowledge gained with other staff to improve and advance nursing practice. Maintains patient/resident safety standards assuring patient /resident privacy, patient/resident physical safety, and patient/resident psychological safety. Administers medications within the scope of their license consistent with MCM 11-03 Administration of Medications. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill to prepare, administer, and appropriately document actions taken specific to commonly prescribed oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous medication. Observes and document the patient's response to medication administered and any noted change is reported to the RN or MD/DO. Provides assistance and support to the Registered Nurse and/or provider within the scope of the LPN/LVN license and consistent with Medical Center policy. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to provide care and services consistent with Infection Control Standards of Practice providing optimal outcomes for patients, residents, visitors and employees. Recognizes, responds and initiates appropriate level response to medical emergency such as cardiac and/or respiratory failure. May perform other duties as assigned. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Primary Care experience preferred. Outpatient Clinic experience preferred. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday: 08:00 AM - 04:30 PM (May Work Weekends & Additional As Needed). PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The incumbent must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential functions of the position without hazard to themselves or others. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, pushing, lifting 45 pounds or more, reaching above the shoulder, frequent pushing medication carts; and use finger and both and hand and legs. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures.
