ChristianaCare is currently looking for an experienced NP/PA to be the Lead for our growing Surgical team. This position is at our Cecil Campus in Elkton, MD. In this role, you will serve as the clinical leader for our team of APC's. You will actively participate in clinical management to surgical patients in the inpatient, emergency department, and operative settings, devoting your time to clinical responsibilities. There will also be dedicated time for administrative responsibilities. Administrative Duties: - Oversight and management of day to day clinical activities including but not limited to APC schedule and staffing, timecard management, expense and CME tracking, conflict resolution and clinical support.
- Collaborate with APCs and clinical leaders regarding systemwide policies and practice initiatives.
- Coordinate APC onboarding and orientation and ensure competency, including documentation.
- Ensure adequate clinical learning opportunities for APC students, including coordination of student preceptorships.
- Support growth and development of APCs through quarterly check-ins.
- Facilitate regularly scheduled team huddles and communicate updates, changes, and concerns effectively.
- Collaborate with clinical leadership to develop and monitor quality performance metrics.
- Serve as a resource, role model, and mentor for all APCs.
- Assist clinical leader with other duties, as indicated.
Clinical Duties: - Performs daily rounds and assesses health status of assigned patients through complete physical examination and medical history.
- Analyzes patient data and formulates an individualize plan of care based on patient assessment and needs in collaboration with the physician, nursing, and other members of the disciplinary team.
- Provides nonoperative, preoperative & postoperative management to assigned patients.
- Participates in the operative care of surgical patients as assigned, including positioning, draping, first or second assisting, and writing of postoperative notes and orders.
- Performs consultations in the Emergency Department or on the floors. Performs an assessment and formulates a plan and collaborates with attending physician.
- Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of prescribed surgical management plan.
- Establish priorities based on patient needs and act on these accordingly.
- Order, interpret, or perform therapeutic modalities or procedures, within scope of practice and privileges.
- Complete appropriate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR), which includes history and physical (H&P), consults, progress notes, procedure/operative notes, discharge summaries, orders, and message center.
- Submit billing in a timely fashion according policy.
- Utilize teaching/learning principles coupled with an expert clinical knowledge to promote and provide education and counseling to the patient and/or family including teach back.
- Act as a liaison for patients, families, and other health professionals.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of best practice guidelines, quality, and performance improvement protocols, algorithms, and research.
- Provide excellent customer service and assist in efforts to improve patient satisfaction scores.
- Strive for the highest quality in all aspects of work performance and assume responsibility for improving care/services.
