In this Patient Safety Associate role at Banner Lassen Medical Center, you will work alongside our clinical staff in the ER and on the units to provide direct observation of patients. This Patient Safety Assistant role is a per diem position, with no guarantee of shift or hours, helping provide coverage as needed in the department. Located in Susanville in northeast California, Banner Lassen Medical Center offers comprehensive care in a state-of-the-art facility to aid in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses. Our 25-bed medical center has a proud history of providing vital caring to the community since 1883. Though we are a small community hospital, we have invested in the latest medical equipment, including a 16-slice CT scanner, nuclear medicine, MRI, ultrasound, bone density, mammography and CAD. The hospital also offers infusion and oncology therapy, respiratory therapy and cardiopulmonary services as well as laboratory services, inpatient and outpatient surgery and a 24-hour emergency department. POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides oversight to a patient or a group of patients. This position is responsible to communicate with the Registered Nurse (RN) upon arrival, departure and as appropriate throughout the shift. The RN will provide instruction to this position as to the expectations and any pertinent patient information. Will ensure the environment is safe and secure at all times. Is aware of the patient's code status and pertinent restrictions and report any issues or concerns to the RN.

CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Follows a plan communicated by the RN when providing support services to patients.

2. Communicates the services provided to the patient with the supervisor/Registered Nurse.

3. Communicates changes in the patient's condition, environment or situation to the RN.

4. May practice de-escalation techniques and intervene early with approved diversional activities

5. This position is accountable to provide observation, diversion, and communication to ensure a safe environment. The position is responsible for providing excellent customer service to a variety of internal and external customers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Basic Cardiac Life Support, mandatory safety, hazardous materials, and infection control in-services will be included in orientation and required on a periodic basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
