This is an open and continuous announcement which will be used to fill the Registered Nurse-Nurse on Duty position In at the Dayton VA Medical Center. The Evening/Night Nurse on Duty (NOD) supervises and coordinates nursing care provided on irregular tours. He/she ensures proper staffing coverage to provide the highest quality nursing care. He/she independently assigns and reassigns work. Conducts patient care rounds for the purpose of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care needs. Identifies and resolves problems that arise with patients, family, nursing staff and other personnel. Duties if this position includes but are not limited to: Implements and demonstrates responsible leadership and creative approaches in problem-solving for all staff and veterans. Duties if this position include Evaluates, rewards, or disciplines nursing service employees; addresses employee grievances; grants time off the job; effectively reports problems of the preceding tour to the oncoming supervisory team. Provides regular and periodic briefings to nursing leadership/ management team and provides supervisory/management coverage and support during emergency situations occurring on the evening/night tours of duty. He/she will evaluate and oversee nursing staff and programs, accomplish program goals, and adapt to changing priorities.
