Washington University in St. Louis is seeking a Chief Physician and Director of Medical Services for the Habif Health & Wellness Center which provides medical and mental health care to a residential campus of approximately 12,000 students. This is a busy, high paced practice of multiple specialties with more than 30,000 patient/client encounters. Laboratory and pharmacy services are onsite. A team of professionals, including physicians, nurses, counselors and ancillary personnel provide a variety of services to our students.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Chief Physician will serve as the Director of Medical Services. The primary responsibilities are:
Direct patient care and oversight of medical practice, ensuring the delivery of high quality service. This includes planning, directing and organizing quality medical practice.
Establish effective working relationships and team approach among employees, coordinating and supervising provider staff in collaboration with the Executive Director and other management personnel; includes interviewing, selecting, training and development, evaluation and coordination of providers. Develops and implements action plans and/or tools to resolve any provider issues.
Work with management team on the development of policy and procedures for efficient, confidential, and effective operation. Advocate for and ensure implementation of programs and services consistent with the University’s philosophies and mission.
Additional responsibilities includes acting as the Executive Director in the Executive Director’s absence regarding medical emergencies, fulfilling administrative responsibilities, and developing training and education materials for medical staff.

An MD or DO degree is required as well as five years of experience in internal medicine, primary care or emergency medicine/urgent care. Critical skills and expertise include strong knowledge of evidence-based interventions, strong desire to work in the college health field, and the ability to work effectively as a team member as well as demonstrating initiative and drive as a team leader.
