The RNFA is a perioperative RN who has received training by a Registered First Assist Certified Program works in collaboration with the surgeon and health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Intraoperatively competencies, the RNFA include proper demonstration of: 1) safe positioning off the surgical patient. 2) providing visualization of the operative site during procedure. 3) assisting the surgeon in priding hemostasis. 4) assisting with closure of body planes. 5) expeditis operative procedure by anticipating the needs of the surgeon. 6) has advanced knowledge of normal and pathological anatomy. 7) and functions during emergency situations.
BSN preferred. Successful completion of an RNFA program that meets the "AORN standards for RN first assistant education programs" and is accepted by the Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI). BCLS provider required. ACLS is preferred.
At least 2 years of OR experience required including both scrubbing and circulating.
