Accountable for performing various clerical and office support duties for Emergency Services. Effectively coordinates activities necessary to ensure that initiation of patient care and ordered treatments are completed in an expedient and organized manner. Responsible for maintaining professional conduct, appropriate communication skills while contributing to the goals of the department. Participates in monitoring and maintaining resources in the department.
Perform and coordinate clerical support functions for initiation of patient care and ordered treatments.
Maintain current data on patient population in the department.
Communicate relevant patient data regarding admissions, orders, lab results etc. to charge nurse.
Prepare forms necessary to unit management.
Maintain orderliness of work station.
Greet visitors promptly. Promote positive relationships with public, patients and staff.
Demonstrate use of effective interpersonal skills and present with a positive attitude.
Demonstrate knowledge of telephone etiquette: answer telephone promptly â�� introduce self and location. Use friendly tone of voice. Answer caller questions tactfully. Refer calls to proper party. Promptly transfer call.
Operate a multiple-line telephone. Utilize voice messaging appropriately. Relay information pertaining to patient care within scope of practice in a timely manner to other team members.
Utilize resources necessary for communication: digital paging system, digital pager/Vocera before overhead, paging (Intercommunication System).
Identify and order commonly used forms and supplies.
Submit maintenance service requisitions for office equipment: FAX, telephone, copiers, computers, Site FM, Trimedex, and pharmacy scanner.
Level 2 â�� Proficient (in addition to above duties)
Demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology: general medical, surgical and diagnostic terms, and procedures related to department.
Demonstrate ability to prioritize tasks according to urgency. Develop a routine that allows for maximum use of time. Exhibit ability to effectively multitask.
Level 3 â�� Subject Matter Expert (in addition to above duties)
Practice problem solving techniques by verbalizing proper steps to take during a confrontational situation.
Promote awareness of differing cultural, social, and religious needs among patients, family and caregivers.
Required: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.)
Preferred: In field or specific environment
Required: 2 years clerical
Preferred: Experience in Emergency Room or other patient care unit.
Required: Computer, typing, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work under stress, prioritizing skills to manage workload.
Required: Medical terminology/Knowledge of ancillary department (lab, radiology)
Preferred: EMS system. Lab procedures and pharmacy.
Required: Basic computer skills, awareness of current use of technology in related field.
Required: Must be able to work variable shifts, weekends and/or holidays.
